Mr Maggs' first attempt at building a webpage for Shepshed High School.
It looks like the basic structure now works, so have a go. The website is served from an old PC I had spare at home (Pentium 266Mhz, 80mb ram). This machine is running Mandrake Linux 9.0 as the operating system. The webpage you are looking at is being served by Apache webserver software - this is an "industrial strength" webserver, which is not only the most popular webserver on the internet, it also happens to be free! I've also used "php" in the design - it is a programming language that you can use on webpage design, it's strength lies in that it can be used with databases - a future project!! Yahoo have just announced that they are going to convert their system over to "php". It is not a propriety language and is completely free to use without restriction. All the code for the site was written using a simple text editor, similar to (a glorified) Notepad.
No Microsoft software is used at all and no licences/fees are required
Can you pass comment on the general layout/ colour scheme etc. I know I've missed out some teaching departments - Design?. It might be worth departments thinking of some basic information, that they would like to put on their page - try and keep it general at the moment - we can putsome extra pages later on when we are happy with the general idea. I was thinking that these extra pages needn't follow the formalised structure of the front end - so there will be some oppurtunity to change the format.
I do realise that I am using a cup of tea as a logo!!
If you have any content you want me to add, then I'd prefer it in "text" or "rich text format" format. If you want a table putting on the page, then give me a sketch of the layout with the content in a text file.
